Senior Software Developer (PHP / Laravel Migration)

Remote (UK-wide) Permanent, Full-time

We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Developer to join our small, high-impact team. You will be a key contributor to our IT Augmentation service for a major client in the automotive sector, while also working on our own proprietary products, such as Guseto and Lysander.

This is a "dual-track" technical challenge: you will be responsible for maintaining and supporting a mature fleet management system built on CakePHP, while simultaneously leading the strategic replatforming of that system into Laravel.

£45,000 – £55,000 per annum (Depending on Experience)

Laravel PHP CakePHP MySQL / MariaDB REST APIs SOAP APIs

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the transition of legacy CakePHP codebases to a modern Laravel architecture.
  • Provide ongoing support, bug fixing, and essential updates for the existing CakePHP application to ensure service continuity.
  • Contribute to the feature roadmap and scaling of our own products, including Guseto and Lysander.
  • Maintain and build REST and SOAP APIs, including third-party integrations with automotive finance and fleet providers.
  • Manage and optimise MySQL/MariaDB schemas, ensuring data integrity across both old and new systems.
  • Write clean, well-tested code, participate in code reviews, and contribute to high-level architectural decisions.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • 4+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Deep understanding of the Laravel ecosystem (Eloquent, Service Containers, Queues, etc.), or the ability to learn fast with some training.
  • Proven experience with CakePHP (or similar MVC frameworks) and the ability to navigate and maintain older codebases.
  • Background in replatforming or modernising legacy PHP applications while keeping them operational.
  • Strong SQL skills (MySQL/MariaDB), specifically regarding data migration and query optimisation.
  • Ability to manage your own workload remotely and balance the needs of both legacy support and new development.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience in fleet management, vehicle leasing, or automotive finance.
  • Front-end skills (HTML, CSS, JavaScript/jQuery).
  • Familiarity with Docker or other containerisation tools.
  • Knowledge of server administration (Apache/Nginx) and CI/CD pipelines.

CakePHP Developer (Fixed-Term Contract)

Remote (UK-wide) 3-Month Fixed-Term

We are looking for a developer to join us on a 3-month fixed-term contract to help clear a backlog of bugs and maintenance tasks in a mature fleet management system built on CakePHP. You will work through prioritised tickets, fix defects, and ensure the system remains stable and production-ready while the long-term migration to Laravel is underway.

£4,400 per month (3-month fixed-term contract)

Key Responsibilities

  • Work through a prioritised backlog of bugs, defects, and maintenance tasks in the existing CakePHP application.
  • Diagnose and resolve issues across the full stack, including database queries, business logic, and front-end rendering.
  • Ensure fixes are well-tested and do not introduce regressions in the production system.
  • Communicate progress clearly and flag any blockers or risks early.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Strong PHP experience with the ability to navigate and maintain legacy codebases.
  • Experience with CakePHP or similar MVC frameworks.
  • Solid SQL skills (MySQL/MariaDB) for debugging and fixing data-related issues.
  • Methodical approach to bug fixing — able to reproduce, diagnose, and resolve issues efficiently.
  • Self-motivated and comfortable working remotely with minimal supervision.

Hours

37 hours per week. Mon-Thu: 9am - 5:30pm, Fri: 9am - 5pm (1 hour unpaid lunch break daily).
